More Options for Purchasing Health Insurance are Needed Report shows that employers and employees could benefit from section 125 options Contact: Sarah McIntosh (316) 634-0218 (WICHITA) – How to decrease the number of uninsured and reduce health insurance costs is a concern for many Kansans. A report issued by the Flint Hills Center for Public Policy, “Serving Up More Options in Health Insurance through Cafeteria Plans,” explains one way to alleviate health increase costs and reduce the number of uninsured in Kansas. “Allowing individual plan purchase and ownership through employers’ cafeteria plans can be a great benefit to both employers and employees,” says Flint Hills Vice President of Programs Sarah McIntosh. The report explains that Missouri passed a similar plan last year and while Kansas allows employer-based insurance purchased through cafeteria plans, individual plan purchases should be made available as well. “There are a multitude of benefits from such a plan,” claims McIntosh, “including insurance portability, increased choices, and better affordability for employees and tax advantages and lower human resource costs for employers.
