(WICHITA) – The recent election of Barack Obama as president signifies that major changes may be coming to the nation’s health care system. But legislators in the state of Kansas are not powerless to address the problems facing the health care system.

Senior fellow Gregory L. Schneider offers "A Six Point Recommendation for Health Care Reform" that will have the effect of improving the quality, efficiency, and transparency of the state’s health care system while at the same time reducing the burden on taxpayers.

These reforms include:  helping individuals on Medicaid secure private insurance, focusing on health care costs, reducing insurance mandates, not using a tobacco tax to fund health care reform, focusing on long-term care reform, and encouraging price transparency.

Dr. Schneider suggests that, “Focusing on these reform options will help Kansas reduce the number of uninsured in our state while avoiding some of the budget deficit problems the state is facing.”
